This ended up being a great opportunity for Mackynzie and me. It was awesome to participate in this a great service project. The stake has been gathering supplies to create 189 or so care baskets for kids who are exiting the foster care program.
I wanted Mack to increase her service hours for her college applications, yet this program turned out to be so much more than that. It turned out to be a beautiful experience. A young woman spoke about her experiences in advancing out of the state foster care program. She explained what her future plans were and then she explained how her experiences in the foster care system had been. It was truly an emotional testimony of how difficult it can be for kids or others out in the REAL world.
Luckily this young woman had found God and actually at this time in her life was very grateful for him, because of the things she had been given. It was an eye opening experience for me and I was grateful I had thought to bring Mack along. On Sunday Mackynzie bore her testimony of the experience. It brought a smile to my face that she had felt the spirit and that connection.
Life is difficult for people and there is so much service that should and can be done. It was lovely to see all the people in attendance to serve and try to create something special for these young souls who really don't have family support or much of anything.
